Virginia Family Dentistry is now offering a new, state-of-the-art laser treatment to reduce bacteria in the mouth and promote healthy gums. These procedures are painless and quick, using high-intensity light to treat the infected areas.
Laser Assisted Periodontal Treatment
Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy treats gum disease efficiently and painlessly without generating aerosols.
First, the plaque and calculus deposits on the root of the tooth are removed using scalers and other instruments. After the tooth and root surfaces are cleaned out and smoothed, the Diode Laser is used to selectively remove inflamed gum tissue from the root of the tooth. The laser significantly reduces bacteria, promotes healing of the tissue, and helps to regenerate new healthy tissue.
The duration of these treatments depends on the severity of the periodontal disease. This treatment does not require general anesthetic as the laser seals off nerve endings and blood vessels. It is less invasive than most other periodontal treatments and can effectively spot treat infected areas.
Laser Bacterial Reduction
Laser Bacterial Reduction is a non-invasive and painless method of killing bacteria in the mouth during a routine cleaning appointment. This method uses a non-cutting dental laser. High-intensity light is focused at the gum line and is used to reduce periodontal bacteria in gums, reduce or eliminate bacteremia, stimulate new cell growth, and promote tissue healing.
Treatment of Cold Sores or Ulcers in the Mouth
Aphthous ulcers or herpetic lesions are treated painlessly in just a few minutes. The diode laser kills the bacteria, relieves pain, quickens healing time, and reduces the number and size of ulcers. Patients report a numbing effect and pain reduction immediately after treatment.
Virginia Family Dentistry providers are continuing education in this advancing technology. We keep up to date with any new changes or protocols that will benefit our patients.
