Dr. Denver Lyons grew up in Winchester, Virginia, and graduated from University of Virginia. He went on to the Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Dentistry where he earned his DDS degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Following dental school, he remained at VCU to complete a Master of Science in Dentistry and to obtain a specialty certificate in Periodontics. This advanced training covered all aspects of treatment of periodontal disease, soft tissue and bone grafting, implant placement, as well as oral and IV sedation.
Dr. Lyons is a Board Certified Periodontist which denotes significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty, including demonstrating a comprehensive mastery of all phases of periodontal disease and treatment and in the placement of dental implants. He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Southern Academy of Periodontology, the Virginia Society of Periodontists, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and the Richmond Dental Society. He is committed to staying up to date with the highest level of periodontal and implant therapies.
Denver, as he is known by his patients, was initially interested in medicine but was drawn to dentistry by his childhood dentist and mentor. Prior to dental school he worked as an assistant in the department of Graduate Periodontics at VCU and was hooked from his first day of seeing IV sedations and periodontal treatment.
In his spare time Denver is an amateur beekeeper, bluegrass music lover, and is learning the art of luthiery while building an acoustic guitar. He and his wife live in Midlothian and enjoy hiking with their two dogs, Chloe and Josie.
