Dr. Erin Block Porter was born in Henrico and raised in Midlothian, Virginia. She completed her undergraduate bachelor’s degree in General Science at the University of Oregon. During her time at the University of Oregon, she was, also, a student-athlete on the Acrobatics and Tumbling team. Dr. Porter then moved back to Virginia to attend Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. After attaining her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, she continued on at VCU for three additional years to complete her surgical residency training in Periodontics and dental implant surgery. Upon successful completion of her residency program, she earned her Master of Science in Dentistry degree as well as her specialty certificate in Periodontics. For a year following residency, Dr. Porter worked in a private practice office specializing in Periodontics and dental implants in the Tidewater area of Virginia.
Dr. Porter is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, meaning that she is a board-certified periodontist and is a member of a distinguished group of practitioners who have made significant achievements beyond the mandatory requirements of the specialty. She is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, Virginia Society of Periodontists, American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, and Richmond Dental Society.
Dr. Porter was drawn into dentistry by her father, Dr. Carl Block, who is also a periodontist at Virginia Family Dentistry, as well as her grandfather, Dr. Philip Block, who is a retired periodontist. She enjoys connecting with her patients and being an advocate for their oral and overall health and well-being.
Outside the office, she and her husband, Bryan, enjoy spending time with their son, Wally, and their friends and family. They both enjoy being outdoors and exploring all the culinary excitement that Richmond and the surrounding areas offer.
