Dr. Zain Hyder moved to Richmond at the age of 13 and has been a patient at Virginia Family Dentistry since then.  During his summer breaks he shadowed and worked as a dental assistant at the Atlee office.  These experiences fostered his curiosity in dentistry so he decided to continue his education by applying to dental school.

Dr. Hyder graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science from Virginia Tech, and went on to pursue his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University.  He takes pride in being an active member in the community and has volunteered at the Charlottesville Free Clinic, Give Kids a Smile Day, and Special Olympics.  In 2011, he had the opportunity to participate in the Jamaica Project, a week-long dental service trip in Trelawny, Jamaica.

Dr. Hyder understands the impact oral health has on a patient’s overall health and self-esteem.  He realizes some patients may be timid when coming to the dentist and takes time answering all questions, while also providing different treatment options to them. Dr. Hyder is trained to provide comprehensive patient care whether they need a simple filling, or more complex treatments such as implants, root canals, or extractions.  He firmly believes there is higher success of treatment when both the patient and dentist are actively involved in the patient’s oral care.  He takes every opportunity to keep up with the latest advancements in dentistry by taking continuing education classes, and working as a team with other dentists in the practice and community.

In his spare time Dr. Hyder enjoys traveling and spending time with his family and friends.  He loves the outdoors and goes mountain biking, snowboarding, and plays basketball.
