A Richmond native, Steve Johansen graduated from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, and attended dental school at the Medical College of Virginia. Upon graduation in 1977, he completed a one-year U.S. Army Dental Corps General Practice Residency at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, followed by six years of duty in Germany and West Point, New York.
Since joining Virginia Family Dentistry, Dr. Johansen has practiced general dentistry, providing a range of dental services, including treating anxious patients with both oral and intravenous sedation. Steve and his wife, Barbara, have three children and two grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and golfing.
Dr. Johansen has retired from daily practice but continues to serve as a substitute general dentist on an as-needed basis around the practice.
