Born in Japan to an Air Force father, Dr. Christina Franklin’s early life was a mosaic of cultures, having lived in Oklahoma, Germany, and finally settling in Hampton, Virginia. This diverse upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for varied perspectives, a trait that she carries into her professional life. Dr. Franklin excelled in her studies at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she graduated a semester early with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She continued her education at VCU, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery and later an MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Throughout her academic and professional career, Dr. Franklin has been a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in the field of dentistry. As a teaching assistant, she was actively involved in minority-focused summer programs, where she mentored and empowered aspiring dental professionals. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom as she volunteered in Mission of Mercy Projects, providing essential dental care to underserved communities. Dr. Franklin’s dedication to service is further evidenced by her tenure as the youngest Chief Dental Officer at a Federally Qualified Health Center and her work within the Corrections Sector, where she provided invaluable dental care. She also served military personnel during weekend readiness events, enhancing the dental health of those who serve our country.

Dr. Franklin’s commitment to education and mentorship flourished upon her return to VCU as a former Associate Professor and now Affiliate Professor in the Department of General Practice. There, she continues to inspire and shape the next generation of dental professionals, contributing significantly to the admissions process and supporting pre-dental programs. Her efforts ensure that the field of dentistry is accessible and welcoming to students of all backgrounds, with a special focus on increasing the representation of African Americans.

Her professional affiliations are a testament to her active role in the dental community. Dr. Franklin served on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Dental Association Foundation, holds the position of Vice President of the Peter B. Ramsey Dental Society, and serves her community as a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Shortly after joining Virginia Family Dentistry, Dr. Franklin assumed the role of the Fox Holiday Socks Representative, proudly supporting the annual community initiative that provides holiday stockings filled with essentials and gifts to children in need.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Franklin is a devoted mother to three energetic boys. She cherishes her spare moments with them, navigating through their busy sports schedules, and delights in traveling to tropical destinations. She also finds solace in yard work, a task that may be perceived as a chore by some but proves to be therapeutic for her.
