A native of Virginia, Dr. Melanie Wexel Spears is a magna cum laude graduate of James Madison University and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. She received her orthodontic specialty training and Master’s Degree at the University of Florida. There she was trained in the latest orthodontic techniques and treatments for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. Dr. Spears is certified to treat with invisalign® and was trained to use the most sophisticated techniques in this growing treatment method.
In addition to Dr. Spears’s academic achievements, we are especially proud of her caring attitude and community involvement. In school, she was always active in a variety of volunteer activities from being the blood drive coordinator for the dental school to delivering dental care in both Mission of Mercy and Jamaica Projects. She has been an active member of the Southside Dental Society, the local component of the larger American/Virginia Dental Associations. She is past-president of the Southside Dental Society. In addition, she has been an active leader with the Give Kids a Smile project that provides access to care for hundreds of children in need of dental care each year.
In her spare time, Dr. Spears enjoys being playing tennis, skiing, and spending time with her husband and 2 sons.
